You might not see the damage immediately. But by the third or fourth time it happens, your paddle will tell on you β a dead spot, a warped edge guard, a face that starts peeling away from the core. Heat is the slow killer of pickleball paddles, and the inside of a parked car is an oven.

Why Heat Destroys Paddles
A modern pickleball paddle is a sandwich:
- A honeycomb core (polymer, aluminum, or Nomex)

- Warpededge guard. The protective strip lifts, peels, or no longer sits flush.
- Slightcurvature. The paddle doesn't lie flat β it rocks on a table, indicating the core has deformed.
- Colorchange or surface sweating. A glossy or sticky residue β adhesive has seeped and re-cooked onto the face.
Any one of these significantly reduces both performance and resale value. A paddle with a dead spot is a paddle you'll start mis-hitting with β and you'll blame your technique before you blame your gear.
What About Cold Cars in Winter?
The inverse problem. Extreme cold β below freezing β can make the polymer core brittle and the adhesives rigid. A paddle that's been sitting in a freezing car is more susceptible to cracking if dropped or hit hard against a ball out of the cold. Most manufacturers recommend storing paddles in the 50β80Β°F range. Treat your paddle like a musical instrument, not a wrench.
